Prof. Dr. Wolfgang Bleck - on the occasion of his 65th birthday

It has been more than 20 years since Prof. Dr.-Ing. Wolfgang Bleck was called to the chair of Ferrous Metallurgy at RWTH Aachen University and took up the post as head of the Department of Ferrous Metallurgy. Evolving as a state-of-the-art institute under his leadership, this chair is today at the cutting edge in the field of materials technology, with a special focus on steel, and renowned the world over for its excellence. Taking up the mantle of his predecessor in 1994, Prof. Bleck has continued the distinguished and outstanding tradition attaching to this chair, setting it on a trajectory which is both innovative and future-facing. Today, Prof. Bleck is held in high esteem as one of the leading materials experts of our time.

Prof. Dr. Wolfgang Bleck

Born 8th May 1951 in Duisburg, in 1975 Wolfgang Bleck graduated with distinction from Clausthal Technical University in the field of metallurgy, having specialized in metals science. Going on to achieve his doctorate at the Institute for Physical Metallurgy and Metal Physics at the same university in 1979, between 1980 and 1994 he took up a position in the R&D team of Thyssen Stahl AG in Duisburg, eventually becoming department head for process and steel development of flat rolled products. The main thrust of Wolfgang Bleck s activities at Thyssen was in developing process standards for temperature control and annealing technology in hot and cold strip applications for the automobile sector. In 1994 he succeeded Prof. Dr. rer. nat. Dr.- Ing. e.h. Winfried Dahl as head of the Department of Ferrous Metallurgy at RWTH Aachen University. [...]
